Friday 20th March 2026 Sussex Alerts - Lewes and Seahaven Police
Dear Residents,
Please find below the latest Sussex Alerts from Lewes and Seahaven Police.
During our regular coastal patrols late last week, officers in Peacehaven were alerted to a rider using an e scooter on pavements in a dangerous manner, causing concern for local residents and shoppers.
The rider attempted to make off, but officers were quick to catch up with them, as a result the escooter was seized by police under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002.
For owners of such scooters please be advised; it's not currently possible to get insurance for privately owned e-scooters, which means it is illegal to use them on the road or in public spaces, such as parks, street pavements, and shopping centres.
If you use a privately-owned e-scooter in public, you risk the vehicle being seized.
If you cause serious harm to another person whilst riding an e-scooter, the incident will be investigated in the same way it would if you were riding a motorcycle or driving a car.
Our patrols continue, and we will continue to take action to protect communities from dangerous, illegal and ASB driving.
Report ASB driving online here.
